Community Involvement

Gover Harley-Davidson / Buell is a strong supporter of many local organizations and charities. We are proud of our city, state, nation, churches, law enforcement, military… there are just too many to list. Just a few of our partners are highlighted here:

*Family Readiness Group – We’re support our troops AND their families. The Ohio National Guard Unit 1-134 FA, Bravo Battery normally calls the Piqua Armory “home” But in 2008 they were deployed to Kuwait. It was an honor to become involved with the soldiers and family members of this unit. Their homecoming in December of 2008 was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

    * Rehab Center – The Rehabilitaiton Center serves infants, children and adults who are experiencing difficulties associated with stroke, birth trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome and others. Their mission is to help each client reach their maximum potential. This is the charity that we have selected for our Poker Run for the last several years. Gover H-D and the Miami-Shawnee H.O.G. Chapter have raised more than $35.000 for this organization!

    * Hearts Desire - Heartland of Piqua is a nursing home just around the corner from our dealership. They have a program called “Hearts Desire” in which their residents are granted wishes. We have coordinated motorcycle rides for two lovely ladies with this program as well as allowing them to use our lot for a hot air balloon launch. Our H.O.G. Chapter has also done rides to various nursing homes in the community.

    * Police Bikes – in 2008 we sold bikes to both the Darke County and Miami County Sheriff’s Departments. It is a privilege to work so closely with local law enforcement and see them promoting the value of our product and our brand.

    * Military Sales – Harley-Davidson has a purchase program for our servicemen and women who are stationed overseas. They take delivery of their bikes stateside, and we’re proud to be one of the dealers designated for delivery of bikes to these fine men and women of the Armed Forces.

    * MDA – in 2008 we proudly hosted the Miami County MDA Lock Up. At a time when many charities are struggling to meet their goals, the generous people of Miami county exceeded MDA’s budget for this area.

    * Toys for Tots – Every Christmas since 2007 we’ve been a drop-off point for Toys for Tots.

    * Harley Heroes – The Harley’s Heroes™ program provides in-community services to veterans of all ages in communities where they live by supporting the programs of DAV. Gover H-D hosted its first Harley Heroes event in 2008 and plans to do more in the future. We enjoyed being able to talk with many of the veterans and let them know how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice for our freedom!

    * Custom T-Shirt Backs – The name of the city we are located in, Piqua, comes from an old Indian legend. We have commemorated this in two or our custom t-shirt designs. (to see these designs please go to the Motorclothes page found under the heading Departments).

    • The Legend of Otath-he-waugh-Pe-Qua – A tribe of Indians was assembled at an annual feast and thanksgiving. They were all seated around a large fire, which having burned down to embers, a great puffing was observed in the ashes. Suddenly, a full formed man sprang up from the remains of the fire and the tribe exclaimed in astonishment "Otath-he-wagh-Pe-Qua." (He has come out of the ashes.) And from that time, that place was called Piqua.
